U. Illinois students get ‘Sylly,’ a new campus dating app
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, a dating app called Sylly launched on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus last month.
The app was developed by Sathwik Reddy, a University of Illinois graduate, and Josh Jay James, a current senior at the Gies School of Business.
Sylly requires a university email address to sign up and aims to make it easier to progress from chatting to a real-life date, according to reporting by Illinois Public Media and campus newspaper The Daily Illini.
“(Sylly gives) students a time, a place and a person for a date at a local business through something called a swipe session, an event hosted on the app,” Reddy told the campus newspaper. “We’re focused on first launching within our own community, really aggressively collecting feedback … because our target customer is a college student. We wanted to really understand what helps them go outside and meet people.”
