Ellucian announces $10 million scholarship fund

To ensure that students are able to continue their educations during the pandemic, the software company Ellucian on Monday announced a new scholarship program. The Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope, or PATH, campaign, aims to contribute $10 million to students experiencing economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “While there are many educational paths forward including online learning, community college, and returning to campus when it’s safe, we’re concerned that students may choose to pause their studies indefinitely, with devastating consequences," said Brian Fitzgerald, CEO of the Business-Higher Education Forum. Meet Marcus Painter, digital learning coordinator

Marcus Painter, who was recently recognized as one of EdScoop's “NextGen: Emerging EdTech Leaders,” started as a classroom teacher, but eventually gravitated toward a role in which he could help other teachers use technology to improve their lessons. “I view myself as the nerd between IT and teachers," Painter told EdScoop. Now with nearly 20 years of experience working in education, Painter said he's watched as his current role went from being non-existent to being critical to how the modern classroom operates. NetWalker ransomware attacks continue

A variant of ransomware known as NetWalker is continuing to infect institutions of higher education. Most recently, Columbia College in Chicago and the University of California, San Francisco have seen their files stolen by operators of the malware, which are demanding payment under threat of releasing personal information, including Social Security numbers.
