Buffalo schools recovering from ransomware

Public schools in Buffalo, New York, returned to virtual learning on Wednesday for the first time since an apparent ransomware incident late last week disrupted classes. Superintendent Kriner Cash told the local school board Wednesday evening that the district is continuing to recover from the incident, which is being investigated by the FBI and a third-party cybersecurity firm. The district also purchased endpoint detection software from Carbon Black.   Benjamin Freed has more.

Virginia Gov. Northam releases in-person graduation guidelines

Virginia Gov. Ralph on Wednesday released a draft plan with guidelines for holding in-person graduations and commencements this spring, with events for K-12 districts and higher education institutions capped at 5,000 people or 30% of the venue’s capacity, whichever is less. The move is indicative of a post-pandemic educational environment for students and staff. Colin Wood reports.

Cal State student creates 23-campus newswire

Student journalists across the California State University system’s 23 campuses can now push their stories out to a common newswire and share resources across a new network launched earlier this month on the freely available on the publishing platform Substack.
