Incarcerated coders develop an offlineLMS

Washington University in St. Louis’ Prison Education Project won a two-year, $980,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation last December to build out its program, including new courses, staff members and a computer room. A major component is developing “The Learning Center,” a learning management system that allows instructors to communicate with prisoners engaged in self-guided courses without an internet connection. The offline learning management system for prisons is now expanding throughout the state. AI chatbot maker turns to higher education

Juji, an AI-powered chatbot company that was co-founded by a former IBM Watson researcher, announced on Thursday the launch of a new virtual agent tailored for higher education. According to the company, its new product was designed to meet the needs of university administrators, including fielding massive queues of repetitive questions from prospective students, supporting remote learners and serving as counselors’ aides to streamline information-gathering. Miami Dade College and IBM take on workforce initiative

Miami Dade College will collaborate with IBM to grow several technology-focused workforce development programs geared toward “students of diverse backgrounds,” the institution announced this week. The partnership will see IBM’s Global University Program donate more than $10 million in assets, including guest lecturers and faculty training, over the next three years to Miami Dade College.
