Howard U., AWS equip students with cloud skills

Howard University and Amazon Web Services are working together to educate staff and students on cloud technologies, building from concepts in AWS Educate, an online learning program. The partnership announced this month that Howard University, a private historically Black institution in Washington D.C., is incorporating cloud computing throughout its offerings, including launching a new master’s degree in data science in 2022, offering training on cloud services and other technology to faculty and extending cloud computing courses to the Howard Middle School of Math and Science, which is located on the university’s campus. Budget concerns are a roadblock for tech adoption

Budget concerns are the most-cited roadblock in the way of universities adopting new technologies, a survey of more than 600 higher education leaders found. A Chronicle of Higher Education survey questioned 665 higher education leaders in March about technology decisions they made during the pandemic. While respondents said they were most interested in exploring open educational resources, predictive analytics, AI and chatbots, about 75% said they believed budget concerns were a top challenge in using new technologies. Technology for post-pandemic travel

Leaders at Syracuse University said they’ve expanded how they use the institution’s study abroad software to help track student travel and make decisions on campus safety during the pandemic and that they’re now assessing how to use the technology to navigate university travel and vaccination post-pandemic.
