U. Wisconsin CISO moves to private sector

Bob Turner, the chief information security officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the past six-plus years, left the university this month for a new role with the cybersecurity vendor Fortinet. Turner, who had announced his impending departure from Wisconsin in June, is now a field CISO with Fortinet, advising the company’s higher-education clients on cybersecurity strategy, vulnerability management and other practices. Federal government issues guidance for international education

The federal State and Education Departments on Monday issued guidance promoting the country’s role in international education and recommending using technology to promote collaboration. The guidance calls for specific actions, including setting up international campuses and maintaining the U.S. as an attractive option for international students and researchers, as well as for more international collaboration on academic research. Technology, the guidance suggests, would be used where in-person experiences are not feasible to connect domestic researchers and students with international perspectives. Emily Bamforth has it.


Colleges and institutions need to pick up the pace to meet AI skills demand

A new survey of higher education officials suggests that demand for AI training from students and employers is outpacing the current ability of institutions to deliver. The study, which polled respondents from community colleges, four-year colleges and vocational schools, suggests that while higher ed officials recognize the growing need for AI instruction, they are struggling to attract qualified instructors and may need more help to get there quickly.
