Nonprofit plans new course-sharing network for online education

Complete College America, a nonprofit that develops strategies and policy to boost college completion rates, announced last month it wants to build a national network of higher education institutions offering students more online options. CCA announced a partnership with the online course-sharing platform Acadeum on Sept. 30 to build out the consortium, offering the thousand-plus colleges and universities within its 47 member states and networks a chance to join. Miami-Dade College CIO outlines CRM plans

Miami-Dade College, one of the largest public higher education institutions in the country, is building out its data strategy over the next two years. A key piece of that project, Chief Information Officer Tanya Acevedo told EdScoop, involves implementing a centralized customer relationship management system. The college, with eight campuses and about 100,000 students, plans to pull from the CRM’s logged interactions to track what students need and find indicators of struggling students before they drop out. Purdue students cause traffic, but they'll try to solve it

West Lafayette, Indiana, plans to build on its “smart” camera system to improve road safety when the rural city’s population booms during Purdue University’s school year. To find a solution, the city of roughly 50,000 residents is hosting a competition asking teams of students, researchers, faculty and small businesses to address the risks posed by increases in traffic during the school year and university events, as well as city gatherings like festivals. Three finalists, to be selected next January, will gain access to historical and real-time traffic data from 19 cameras to develop prototypes. Check out the full story on EdScoop.
