Illinois wants to make it easier to apply to its colleges

The $1 million dedicated to moving all of Illinois’s 12 public four-year institutions to the Common App is paying for both state and university administrative costs associated with the effort, the llinois Board of Higher Education told EdScoop.By offering all public four-year institutions on the widely-used online platform, the state aims to ease the application process for Illinois students and to draw in out-of-state students to Illinois colleges, according to an announcement from Pritzker’s office. A grant application vendor exposed millions of files, researchers find

A software company called SmarterSelect that manages applications for academic scholarships, grants and other forms of financial assistance for college students misconfigured a cloud storage platform, leaving millions of records exposed on the open internet, according to research published Monday by UpGuard, a cybersecurity risk management firm. The platform contained nine top-level directories, all containing information about the scholarship organizations that use SmarterSelect and about 150,000 PDF files of students’ application materials. The University of Iowa opened a remote workspace in a former shopping mall

The University of Iowa opened a coworking space this month for remote and hybrid employees to hold meetings and stop between appointments on campus, as part of a campuswide initiative to reexamine work-from-home policy. The coworking space is at a former mall in Iowa City and includes meeting rooms outfitted with technology to hold hybrid meetings, including cameras, microphones and streaming hardware, university planning analyst Margaret Vogel told EdScoop.
