Defense Dept. grants to fund STEM consortiums

The Department of Defense announced a grant program that would form community college consortiums — partnerships to address regional STEM education and workforce development. The consortiums, led by community colleges, but including four-year institutions, companies and nonprofits, would propose strategies for boosting completion rates for technical training and certificate programs in science, technology, engineering and math. Arizona State U. students join 'digital equity jam' pitch competition

Nearly 80 students signed up for Arizona State University's “Digital Equity Jam,” in which students pitch projects related to education, the environment, climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation and public health, said Heather Haseley, the co-director of ASU’s Learning Futures Collaboratory. The competition asks students to apply 5G wireless and edge-computing technologies, which could lead to projects in which students explore smart farming practices or introduce immersive learning in remote areas.
