Education Dept. plans $121 million for financial aid eligibility system

The U.S. Department of Education awarded a $121 million contract to General Dynamics IT to modernize the system that processes financial aid eligibility. Plans include moving the eligibility system from a legacy mainframe to the cloud, according to the company. General Dynamics IT previously won a contract to run the department's federal student aid form system. Emily Bamforth reports.

Cyber.org declares "National Cybersecurity Education Month"

Cyber.org, a nonprofit backed by CISA money, declared June "National Cybersecurity Education Month." The idea is to rally the public and private sector around K-12 cybersecurity education, according to an announcement. The nonprofit develops resources for K-12 educators teaching cybersecurity concepts and introducing students to potential cybersecurity careers. Emily has more.

Wait on FCC maps hangs over new broadband program

As states gear up to participate in a $45 billion federal broadband program, the FCC broadband maps that would guide spending are still in the works. FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel has said she expects the maps to be ready by the fall, but senators expressed concern about the maps during a committee hearing last week. The FCC maps would show what areas receive high-speed broadband so that states can use the federal money to connect areas without service. Benjamin Freed explains on StateScoop.
