The Oregon Institute of Technology announced Monday that Connie Atchley, information technology services director at Oregon State University, will join the university’s administration as its new chief information officer and vice president of information technology services.

After a national search to replace former CIO Jim Jones, who announced his retirement in December last year, Oregon Tech said that Atchley’s decades of experience in higher education IT will make her an instrumental leader in developing campus technology as well as technical infrastructure to support the success of the institution, according to a press release.

“We’re looking forward to Ms. Atchley joining us at Oregon Tech in this important role,” said Nagi Naganathan, president of Oregon Tech. “Connie has the understanding of our institution’s systems and partnerships to continue our positive trajectory, and we welcome her to Oregon Tech.”

Atchley is set to begin her new position on July 1, according to the university, and as CIO will help promote a leading-edge computing environment for faculty, staff and students. She will also be responsible for institution-wide strategic planning and budgeting for information technologies, and coordination and integration of university information technology.

“Oregon Tech’s emphasis on growth, program relevance and becoming a nationally recognized public polytechnic university will rely on strong partnerships among information technology, business units and faculty. I am excited to come on board to be part of that journey with the University,” Atchley said.

Atchley began her career in higher education IT in 1998 at OSU, where she worked as an analyst and programmer, according to her LinkedIn profile. During her tenure at the university, she was responsible for managing the university’s IT department, and restructured the Information Technology Services team, aligning departments to increase business efficiency.

Atchley has worked in a variety of technical and leadership positions at OSU over the last 20 years and has also worked with the education technology companies Collegis and Ellucian.

“I enjoy new challenges and working within dynamic organizations,” Atchley said. “I have been consistently successful in building collaborative relationships across organizations to facilitate high quality IT outcomes and strong partnerships.”

Atchley received a master’s degree in applied information management from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s in information management from Oregon State University.
